Tell us four of your proudest accomplishments or accolades.
I started my business Redefine & Reveal Massage Therapy & Bodywork LLC and created a healing program “Render a Respite” that gives back to underserved individuals within our community.
I founded Embrace the Race 5K, an event that promotes health equity, spreads cultural awareness and fosters unity in community.
I serve on the board of Courageous Access, supporting Black women survivors of domestic violence.
I received the 2024 West Des Moines Diversity, Equity, Inclusion Emerging Leader of the Year Award.
What's your biggest passion, and why?
My passion is bringing healing to others — through my business with safe healing touch; via movement, music and educational books with Embrace the Race 5K. Whether a simple gesture like laughter, a handwritten card or a smile, I strive to uplift others and create moments of comfort, connection and joy.
How do you define success, both personally and professionally?
I believe success is the impact you leave behind. It’s reflected in how people feel after encountering you — whether through leadership or a brief interaction. Elevating a project or space beyond its original state also signifies growth. To me, success is about creating meaningful, lasting change in people and environments.
Tell us about an issue you think more people should know about.
More people should understand human anatomy and physiology, specifically the role of fascia and how it contributes to pain and tension, as well as the mind-body connection of trauma. I enjoy educating others on this topic, empowering others to try alternative holistic strategies to improve well-being and aid in healing.
What's an experience or memory that influenced how you saw the world or what you wanted to do in life?
Years ago, I bought a Chevy Equinox, new to me, only to learn it was a common family car. This reminded me about everyday injustices. Once you see inequality, you can’t unsee it — it’s everywhere; unless of course you simply deny or turn a blind eye, change begins with awareness.
What are your aspirations for the future?
I will be growing my business from a dream into reality with the opening of Restorative Retreat: Healing & Wellness Center in April. This center will be a holistic hub where community meets healing in the heart of the Sherman Hill neighborhood focused on offering trusted services and compassionate care.
What's one piece of advice you'd give to a young professional?
Starting over isn’t failure — it’s redirection. When a job, relationship or opportunity leaves your life, it’s making space for something more aligned. Trust the process, embrace change and see fresh starts as growth, not setbacks. The sooner you accept this, the sooner you’ll find where you’re truly meant to be.
What's one regular habit that's made you successful?
Consistency in genuine care for others, especially those less fortunate, keeps me grounded in gratitude. This drives me forward and reinforces the principle of reaping what I sow. Kindness and grace always pay off in the long run — even when others try to dim your light.
What is one thing you would like to see Central Iowa leaders address, and why?
I’d love to see Central Iowa leaders prioritize accessible healing resources, especially for underserved communities. Many struggle with pain and trauma without understanding the mind-body connection or having access to holistic care. The lack of insurance coverage for massage therapy and holistic practices creates barriers, limiting vital natural healing options. Expanding education and coverage for these services would improve community well-being and equity in health care.
What's one fun fact about you?
I’m an April Fools baby and it’s on my bucket list to perform stand-up comedy one day ... no joke!
Hobbies:
Acting as a professional rodeo announcer while playing rodeo with my son; attending live music and comedy shows; going on runs and playing tennis.
What is one word that best describes you?
Compassionate.
What’s one food (meal, snack, dessert, whatever!) you think people must try in the Des Moines area?
Caramel apple pie from Cinnaholic.
What’s the funniest or most surprising thing that’s happened to you recently?
The fact that I see so much of my son in me from his personality, humor, kindness and love for people and animals!
What’s your favorite tradition to participate in locally?
Attending the Iowa State Fair and Cinch World’s Toughest Rodeo each year with my son!
