Tell us four of your proudest accomplishments or accolades.

In my current role as chief of staff for philanthropic engagement at Des Moines Public Schools (DMPS), I strategically manage over 100 community partnerships to address the needs of more than 30,000 students and families.

I co-led the development of Des Moines Public Schools’ five-year strategic plan — the district’s first comprehensive strategic plan in over 20 years.

I lead district-wide fundraising initiatives for Des Moines Public Schools, securing significant philanthropic investments that create meaningful, lasting impacts on student outcomes.

I played a key role in the American Heart Association’s Heart Challenge campaign, raising over $1 million during my tenure, including during the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, while advancing heart health awareness across Central Iowa.

What's your biggest passion, and why?

My passion is creating meaningful change and lasting impact in the community. I’m inspired by the power of collective action — when people unite for a shared cause, transformation happens. Every day, I channel that passion into action, ensuring resources reach those who need them and building a brighter future together for those around us, especially our youths.

How do you define success, both personally and professionally?

I define success as making a meaningful impact — both personally and professionally — by creating opportunities and positive change. It’s about building authentic relationships, helping others thrive, and seeing the community grow stronger. Success means staying true to my values, embracing growth and knowing my work has made a lasting difference in people’s lives.

Tell us about an issue you think more people should know about.

My work in fundraising and community impact in DMPS has deepened my belief that we must rally together to strengthen public education. Adequate funding for public schools is not just an education issue — it’s a community issue that affects our future leaders, workforce and changemakers. Every student deserves access to opportunity, and without meaningful investment, that promise cannot be fulfilled. While hope isn’t a strategy, my hope is that our state and nation prioritize public education funding to create a brighter, more equitable future for all.

What's an experience or memory that influenced how you saw the world or what you wanted to do in life?

Growing up in a small town, I experienced firsthand how societal challenges and broken systems can shape lives and limit opportunities. My own experiences, as well as others’ around me, ignited my commitment to drive change and use whatever privilege and resources I have to lift others. They’ve shaped my career, volunteer work and how I show up every day for my community.

What are your aspirations for the future?

In the future, I aim to strike the perfect balance between supporting those around me and taking care of myself. I’m eager to keep making a difference in the community and discovering fresh ways to do so. Along the way, I’ll be learning from others to become a stronger leader. Oh, and of course, I’ll be rallying the community to support our 30,000 students through funding, engagement and a little bit of volunteer magic!

What's one piece of advice you'd give to a young professional?

Try not to compare yourself to others. Set your goals and work for them at your own pace. Be a sponge to those around you, and seek out mentors to guide your journey. Realize that nobody has it all figured out and the only thing you can do is keep pushing forward.

What's one regular habit that's made you successful?

One habit that has been key to my success is my unwavering commitment to continuous learning and growth. Whether it’s through seeking feedback, staying curious, or taking on new challenges, this drive to improve helps me stay on top of everything. I also practice gratitude daily for every opportunity that allows me to keep going!

What is one thing you would like to see Central Iowa leaders address, and why?

I may be extremely biased, but I would like to see Central Iowa leaders address the ongoing resource shortages in our public schools. Despite the dedication of educators and community partners, we simply don’t have enough to create the transformative outcomes our students deserve. By prioritizing adequate funding and support, we can ensure every student has access to the high-quality education and services they need to thrive — leading to a brighter, more equitable future for our youths and community.

What's one fun fact about you?

I once danced in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City! My dancing shoes are hung up now, though.

Hobbies:

You can catch me either walking, running, or at Power Life each day; enjoy listening to podcasts; and love spending quality time with my dog, Theo!

What is one word that best describes you?

Steadfast.

What’s one food (meal, snack, dessert, whatever!) you think people must try in the Des Moines area?

I am going to plug two different spots here. My most recent favorite restaurant find (I know it has been around forever!) is Noah’s Ark. I love the atmosphere, food and it is my favorite spot to celebrate any big accomplishments! My favorite dessert in the Des Moines metro is Black Cat’s red velvet Oreo ice cream. It is to die-for, and if you haven’t had it, you have to go!

What’s the funniest or most surprising thing that’s happened to you recently?

Some of my funniest recent memories come from walking into the preschool/younger classrooms at Des Moines Public Schools — the kids have zero filter! You never know what’s going to come out of their mouths, but it’s always something unexpected and hilarious. They definitely keep everyone on their toes!

What’s your favorite tradition to participate in locally?

I have to say one of my favorite traditional Iowa events is the Iowa State Fair! Who doesn’t love concerts, fair food and cows made out of butter?!
